Hey Pirate you can skin over the top of the black bars - they are still there in 3D but take on the color you use in the skin - check my skin jpg's to see what i mean.

I use gimp and i do like demo derby cars could some1 make me a nz team skin with aussie on side or another car with flame from the front to back of the door and the rest all black and also im a demo racer
