Going on the discussions about in game resets, it seems to me that a formal policy or agreement needs to be put in place. Both camps have their pros and cons.
Reset is a good tool for less skilled racers, in that it allows you to run the car at it's limit without fear of being completely knocked out of the race. Also handy for those deep gravel traps when you just "get it wrong". OTOH, resets can encourage "loose" driving where racers have little or no fear of consequences. This means more carnage for the group as whole to deal with.
Whichever way you look at it, one thing is certain...someone who uses reset should not be able to win a race as opposed to those who don't. With this in mind, I would propose the following mods be made to the LFS Lapper server (and rest assured, they are very small mods that can be easily done):
- * Allow car resets, but allocate a 30 sec time penalty or a stop/go for doing so
- * Allow a maximum of 2 (or 3 depending on length of race), then get spectated or DQ'd
- * If any points are scored in a race where the racer uses reset, he/she will be dropped 1 place, or a set number of points will be deducted
- * Let Lapper keep a running total of the number of race resets. That way, the stats will tell who is abusing the system, and maybe allow for some sort of judiciary
